Reflections

Image
Our 2019 is over, but the memories are fresh and strong! We saw God at work all around us and we were amazed. God called each person to this team “for such a time as this”. Each person brought a special gift to the trip. Oh what a mighty God we serve! The staff of Foundation for Peace was truly incredible, They serve with such live and joy! They took great care of us. The food was amazing. We love FFP staff! As I reflect over our week in the DR I see: sticky faced dum-dum sucker licking children, families with smiles as they leave  our clinics, older adults who leave the clinic with vitamins and Tylenol; I see team members caring for people who don’t speak English, team members offering the hope and love of Jesus to our patients. I see team members working well together and cheering each other on. I see a team working in hot, difficult circumstances with smiling faces. I see God at work in all situations. “Glory be to God! By His mighty power at work within us-He is able to a...

Clinic and Church and Reese Eggs

Image
Another great day in the DR for our team. We started the day in Bassima providing medical care to the community in a church. The people were so appreciative and they welcomed us warmly. We came  back to a delicious meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and salad. After dinner we went to a beautiful church service. The pastor preached a moving message from I John on love. The people all greeted us with smiles and hugs. This evening we shared some good snacks: cheese crackers and Reese eggs! Once again we have had a great day here in the DR! Several team members are all ready talking about coming back next year.

Clinics on the go

Our 2nd clinic day was in La Cumbre and in El Batey and at the house (Finca). We saw families in a school, in their homes and at the house where we are staying. The team did a great job being flexible and worked hard. We had a great evening meal and were joined by a construction team from New Jersey. We had a nice  little rain shower and things cooled down. We had a good team meeting and Kristin told the story of how God provided the homes used by Foundation for Peace to house team. We are all well and ready to serve again tomorrow. Check back with us for more about our life changing adventure!

Joy Unspeakable 🎶

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood of Pedro Blanca. We had our clinic today in a beautiful community. Our word for today was: JOY. We saw joy in many people and many circumstances: joy on the sticky faces of children eating a Dum Dum sucker, joy of a new mom showing off her beautiful baby, joy on the faces of team members as they served.....joy in people living in difficult situations but thankful for a bag of vitamins, The team did a great job. Everyone worked hard in the hot weather (no snow here). Tonight we have had time to reflect and relax. God has been with us every step of this journey and we know He will continue to provide for us. They pastor of the church prayed over us twice today and it was a true blessing, Everyone is well and we are well fed. I believe we will all sleep well tonight. Be blessed dear friends and family.

Honey we’re home,

We made it! We had a great trip to the DR. No luggage problems- great flights- Praise the Lord! Thank you for all of your prayers. After a delicious dinner we were taught about tropical diseases. We have a great group of people with servant’s hearts ready to serve. We have our first clinic tomorrow. The Foundation for Peace staff is the best! They take such good care of us. We are so thankful to partner with them. We have a mascot this year (thanks to Ann’s fiancee’): keep your eye out for Pus in Boots (El Gato con Botas) he could show up anywhere Those of us who are returning have come to love this country and the Dominican people, That is why when we arrived we felt like saying “Honey, we’re home!”

Here we go again!

Nurses on a Mission will leave on it’s 6th medical mission trip with Foundation for Peace on Thursday, March 7th. The team of 25 will travel to the mountains of Santo Domingo to provide medical care to 4 communities. We are excited to see what God has in store for us. We know He has called every person to this team and we know He has a plan for us. We will try to post every day- depending on internet accessibility. Please come back to hear our story and see our pictures. We would appreciate prayers for safe travels and humble hearts that are prepared to serve. Stay tuned- the adventure is about to begin!
